14. Historic Compound:

Winner of the Nantucket Preservation Trust 2022 Architectural Award. The Richard Gardner III house was built between 1722 1724 on a piece of property known at the time as the Crooked Record. The house is one of the oldest remaining lean-to houses on Nantucket and is an early example of timber-frame architecture. Also on the property is a shed built prior to 1900 which was constructed using timbers from earlier buildings, a garage/apartment built in 1950’s, as well as a freestanding garage, also built in the 1950’s. The scope of the project was to historically restore the historic home to the highest level, restore the original shed and convert it into a personal office, renovate the 1950’s garage apartment and install a small plunge pool behind it. The entire landscape was also reinvented to create cohesion between all of the buildings and property features.
